Are you feeling stressed? Do you feel like you have no time for yourself?
Are you giving to everyone else at the cost of your own needs?
Have you considered what you need in your life to release stress and restore balance?
At some point, you have to take stock of the kind of life you are leading. It is just not possible to be constantly on the go, and there really are easy ways to restore balance in your life. It just takes a healthy commitment to yourself.
Here are 7 ways to consider. And may I preface this by saying that latest research states that it takes 66 days to form a new habit, so please be patient with the process.
1. Begin the day with quiet time.
Sit up in bed as soon as you wake up and simply keep your eyes closed and breathe for 15 mins. This lets you move gently into the day and in a state of more balance.
2. Take a technology hiatus.
Taking some time during the week where you let the technology go is vital. Try taking one evening a week or a whole Sunday. Or shut everything down after 7pm each day.
3. Shut off the News.
Let’s face it, the news should really be called “The Bad News”. It is not healthy to constantly be shown images and stories of all the negative situations and events that are occurring around the globe. If something really important is going on, trust me – someone will tell you! Instead, read an inspiring book, listen to some soul stirring music. Just do something instead that makes you feel good.
4. Take a Breath Between Activities.
This really is as simple as that. Take some moments to just pause and take a breath or two inbetween going from one activity to the next.
Take a breath before you get out of your car.
Take a breath before you pour your cup of tea.
Take a breath before you go to sleep at night.
A conscious breath, acknowledging that you are a living, breathing being.
5. Listen to Your Body.
Instead of just acknowledging that there may be some areas of pain in your body, take some time to really ask why this is occurring. We really do have the answers inside of us. I’m sure you do know why your lower back is hurting or why you have that strained calf muscle.
Ask yourself what you need – a massage, more time alone, more time with your family, more time doing things that you enjoy. The simple act of asking what it is that you need to help the pain in your body is a powerful change agent.
